Medan, April 24, 2026 – The absorption of subsidized fertilizers in Regional I of PT Pupuk Indonesia (Persero), covering Sumatra Island, had reached 683 thousand tons as of April 2026. This figure is equivalent to 30 percent of the total 2026 allocation of 2.22 million tons.

Senior Manager (SM) Regional IA of PT Pupuk Indonesia (Persero), Beni Farlo, stated that the figure is 142 percent higher compared to the same period in 2025, which recorded 479 thousand tons.

“This indicates that our farmers are highly enthusiastic about carrying out planting activities,” said Beni following a rice planting event held together with the Dairi Regency Government in Lumban Toruan Village, Lae Parira District, Dairi, North Sumatra, on Wednesday (April 22).

Entering the next planting season, Beni added, Pupuk Indonesia, as a fertilizer producer, will continue to maintain the availability of subsidized fertilizer stocks at official kiosks and retailers. The company also continues to conduct outreach programs for farmers regarding fertilizer redemption procedures as well as fertilizer application practices in agricultural fields.

“We hope that the high absorption of subsidized fertilizers at the beginning of this year will positively impact agricultural productivity, thereby contributing significantly to achieving the national food self-sufficiency target,” Beni stated.

Furthermore, he explained that the high absorption of subsidized fertilizers in Sumatra cannot be separated from the government’s transformation of subsidized fertilizer distribution governance. These changes simplified distribution bureaucracy, ultimately making it easier for farmers to redeem subsidized fertilizers.

This regulatory simplification is outlined in Presidential Regulation No. 6 of 2025 concerning improvements in subsidized fertilizer distribution governance. The regulation was later refined through Presidential Regulation No. 113 of 2025, which focuses on fertilizer industry efficiency. As a result, farmers have been able to redeem subsidized fertilizers starting every January 1 without having to wait through lengthy bureaucratic processes.

In practice, this convenience can be seen through the simplified redemption process, where farmers registered in the electronic Definitive Group Needs Plan (e-RDKK) only need to bring their Identity Card (KTP) to official kiosks or Penerima Pupuk pada Titik Serah (PPTS) when redeeming subsidized fertilizers. Another highly significant impact was the 20 percent reduction in the Highest Retail Price (HET) for all subsidized fertilizer types since October 22, 2025.

Lastly, Beni stated that the high fertilizer absorption rate in Sumatra has also contributed significantly to national fertilizer absorption. During the same period, national subsidized fertilizer distribution realization reached 2.85 million tons, or approximately 29 percent of the total allocation of 9.85 million tons.

“This achievement demonstrates that subsidized fertilizer distribution in Pupuk Indonesia Regional I has been running effectively and continues to improve, supported by stronger distribution systems and digitalization in the fertilizer redemption process for farmers,” Beni concluded.
