North Toraja, June 10, 2026 – PT Pupuk Indonesia (Persero), through Regional Division 4, held a Grand Harvest of the Balanced Fertilization Demonstration Plot (Demplot) for Rice Cultivation in North Toraja Regency, South Sulawesi. The event serves as tangible evidence that the implementation of balanced fertilization using Pupuk Indonesia’s products can significantly increase land productivity.

Regional CEO of Pupuk Indonesia Regional 4, Wisnu Ramadhani, stated that the rice cultivation on the demonstration plot is part of the company’s efforts to provide direct proof to farmers of the importance of implementing balanced fertilization according to crop requirements and land conditions.

“The productivity improvement achieved through this demonstration plot shows that applying the right type of fertilizer, at the right dosage, at the right time, and in the right manner can deliver optimal results. We want to provide tangible evidence in the field that fertilization innovation and technology can enhance productivity while supporting farmers’ welfare,” said Wisnu.

The demonstration plot, which has been implemented since February 2026, is located on a 1.5-hectare farm owned by a partner farmer, Ms. Ati Napang. The plot applied a balanced fertilization combination consisting of 1,000 kilograms of Petroganik, 100 kilograms of Nitrea, 300 kilograms of NPK Pelangi 16-16-16, 300 kilograms of ZA Plus, and 200 kilograms of Phosgreen.

The harvest results were highly encouraging. From the 1.5-hectare plot, a total of 7.9 tons of unhusked rice was harvested. Land productivity was estimated to reach 11.43 tons, representing an increase of approximately 4.43 tons compared to previous average production levels. This translates into a productivity increase of around 63.3 percent.

According to Wisnu, this increase in rice productivity has attracted significant attention from local farmers, considering that average rice productivity in North Toraja Regency has historically ranged between 3 and 4 tons per hectare. Through the balanced fertilization approach applied in this demonstration plot, productivity reached approximately 7.9 tons per hectare—nearly double the average harvest yields typically achieved by local farmers.

Furthermore, Wisnu stated that the success of this demonstration plot is not only an achievement for the participating farmer but can also serve as a model for other farmers in North Toraja seeking to optimize the potential of their agricultural land.

“Pupuk Indonesia remains committed to supporting farmers through education, field demonstrations, and the provision of high-quality fertilizers to help increase national food production. We hope the success of this demonstration plot can be replicated in other areas so that more farmers can benefit from the implementation of balanced fertilization practices,” he added.

On the same occasion, Ati Napang, a farmer from North Toraja Regency, acknowledged that she experienced a noticeable difference in cultivation results during this planting season. According to her, the application of Pupuk Indonesia’s recommended fertilizer combination resulted in better crop growth compared to the fertilization practices commonly used by local farmers.

“The crop growth was more uniform, and the harvest yield was significantly higher than in previous seasons. We have seen firsthand how the use of these fertilizers can produce different results. We hope this experience can serve as an example for other farmers in North Toraja,” said Ati Napang.

Meanwhile, Vice Regent of North Toraja Regency, Andrew Branch Silambi, expressed appreciation for Pupuk Indonesia’s initiative in establishing the demonstration plot as both an educational platform and a practical showcase of agricultural technology for local farmers.

“Activities like this are highly beneficial because they provide farmers with a real example of proper and effective cultivation practices. The results demonstrate that productivity improvements can be achieved when farmers receive guidance and apply fertilization according to crop requirements. The North Toraja Regency Government fully supports initiatives that can improve agricultural productivity and farmers’ welfare,” he said.

Andrew expressed hope that the success of the demonstration plot could be replicated in other areas so that more farmers can benefit from balanced fertilization recommendations and appropriate agricultural technologies.

Through this grand harvest event, Pupuk Indonesia hopes to further strengthen collaboration among local governments, agricultural extension officers, and farmers to drive higher agricultural productivity, particularly in rice cultivation as one of the key pillars of Indonesia’s national food security.
