Jakarta, June 10, 2026 – PT Pupuk Indonesia (Persero) has ensured the availability of subsidized fertilizers to support national agricultural productivity amid the potential El Niño phenomenon, which is expected to intensify this year’s dry season. As of June 8, 2026, subsidized fertilizer stocks ready for farmer redemption reached 836,672 tons.

“Pupuk Indonesia is ready to support national food security in facing the potential impacts of El Niño by ensuring fertilizer availability for farmers across Indonesia,” said Vice President of Stakeholder Management at Pupuk Indonesia, Susatyo Jati, while speaking at a webinar titled “Maintaining Food Production During El Niño” on Wednesday (June 10, 2026).

He explained that, as of June 8, 2026, Pupuk Indonesia had prepared 507,853 tons of subsidized urea fertilizer stocks. In addition, the company had 256,781 tons of NPK fertilizer, 11,200 tons of NPK Cocoa fertilizer, 17,912 tons of SP-36 fertilizer, 3,303 tons of ZA fertilizer, and 39,623 tons of organic fertilizer in stock. The availability of these stocks is supported by continuously operating production facilities, whose reliability is maintained to ensure fulfillment of the fertilizer allocation established by the government.

“Our production facilities continue to operate, allowing stocks to be continuously replenished. We consistently maintain the reliability of our plants to support the fulfillment of the national fertilizer allocation. Through optimal plant management and maintenance, we continue striving to ensure adequate national fertilizer supply, both for subsidized and non-subsidized products required by farmers,” he explained.

In 2026, the national allocation of subsidized fertilizers for the agricultural sector reached 9.55 million tons, consisting of 4.5 million tons of Urea, 4.5 million tons of NPK, and 0.55 million tons of other fertilizers, including organic fertilizer and ZA.

Jati added that the easier fertilizer redemption process introduced by the government has contributed to increased subsidized fertilizer distribution year after year. As of May 31, 2026, the realization of subsidized fertilizer distribution had reached approximately 4 million tons, or 41.1 percent of the total 2026 allocation.

“Subsidized fertilizer distribution continues to show a positive trend. This demonstrates that the various improvement measures implemented by the government are making it easier for farmers to obtain fertilizers according to their needs,” Jati stated.

On the same occasion, climatology expert from Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), Indra Gustari, warned that the potential El Niño phenomenon could worsen this year’s dry season by further reducing rainfall levels. Such conditions may affect various sectors that depend heavily on water availability, including agriculture.

According to Indra, the period from July to September is expected to experience low rainfall across most parts of Indonesia, particularly in regions south of the equator. These conditions are even forecast to continue through October.

“In October, rainfall is still expected to remain relatively low, although some regions, particularly north of the equator, may begin to experience increased rainfall. Entering November, rainfall is expected to strengthen further,” he said.

He also explained that rainfall from July through October is projected to remain below normal levels, or lower than the climatological average recorded over the past 30 years.

“The peak of the dry season is expected to occur in August, and in some regions, in September. This period will represent the driest phase of this year’s dry season. With this information, various mitigation measures can be prepared in advance,” Indra concluded.
