Brisbane, June 22, 2026 – PT Pupuk Indonesia (Persero) has successfully completed the delivery of urea to Australia as part of its efforts to strengthen Indonesia’s role in safeguarding regional food security and fertilizer supply chains. The achievement was marked by the arrival of the Motor Vessel (MV) Medi Luna, carrying 47,250 tons of urea from Indonesia, at the Port of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, on Monday (June 22, 2026).

The arrival of this shipment marks an important milestone in the implementation of Indonesia–Australia fertilizer export cooperation under the Government-to-Government (G-to-G) framework, aimed at strengthening food security across the Indo-Pacific region. The milestone also reaffirms Pupuk Indonesia’s position as a key player in the regional fertilizer supply chain and a strategic partner of the Government in advancing food diplomacy.

Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Australia and Vanuatu, Siswo Pramono, stated that the successful shipment to Australia represents an important step in strengthening Indonesia’s contribution to food security in the Indo-Pacific region. Amid geopolitical tensions in the Middle East that have affected global fertilizer supply chains, Indonesia has demonstrated its strategic position as a reliable fertilizer supplier in the region.

“This cooperation symbolizes the strong food security partnership between Indonesia and Australia. At a time when global supply chains are facing significant challenges, Indonesia—with its substantial urea production capacity—is well positioned to help meet Australia’s annual fertilizer demand of 3.7 million tons,” he said.

President Director of Pupuk Indonesia, Rahmad Pribadi (fourth from the right in the picture), said the successful shipment reflects the company’s continued efforts to enhance the competitiveness of Indonesia’s fertilizer industry. According to him, Indonesia’s ability to maintain continuous fertilizer production and supply amid global uncertainties has strengthened the country’s position as a strategic partner for nations seeking stable and reliable fertilizer sources.

“Today, Indonesia has demonstrated that we are a reliable supplier capable of supporting our partner countries’ fertilizer needs. We are there when they need us, providing certainty in a world full of uncertainty,” Rahmad said.

As a fertilizer producer with an annual production capacity of 14.8 million tons, Pupuk Indonesia is capable of meeting domestic demand while also supporting regional market requirements. In 2026, the company targets urea production of 7.8 million tons, while domestic demand is projected at approximately 6.3 million tons, leaving sufficient capacity for exports without disrupting fertilizer supplies for Indonesian farmers.

“The President’s directive is clear: first, fulfill the fertilizer needs of our domestic farmers. Our production capacity exceeds domestic demand,” Rahmad said.

Indonesia’s ability to contribute to regional fertilizer demand is supported by a strong domestic supply management system. As of June 22, 2026, subsidized fertilizer stocks stood at 1.23 million tons, while subsidized fertilizer distribution had reached 4.61 million tons, representing a 30 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

Chief Digital & Data Officer (First Assistant Secretary) of Australia’s Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, Amanda Chalmers, expressed her appreciation for the arrival of Indonesian urea in Australia. According to her, the successful shipment reflects the close relationship and strategic partnership between the two countries.

“The arrival of Indonesian urea today reflects the close partnership and friendship between Australia and Indonesia. This fertilizer supply provides certainty for farmers while contributing to food security in Australia and the broader region,” she said.

The urea export to Australia follows the agreement previously established between President Prabowo Subianto and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. The inaugural shipment departed from the BSL Jetty of PT Pupuk Kalimantan Timur in Bontang, East Kalimantan, aboard the MV Medi Luna in mid-May 2026. Subsequent shipments will be carried out in stages, with total exports targeted to reach 250,000 tons by the end of 2026.

The arrival ceremony in Brisbane was attended by Chief Digital & Data Officer (First Assistant Secretary) of Australia’s Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry Amanda Chalmers, Chief Executive Officer of Ridley Corporation Quinton Hildebrand, Chief Operating Officer of Incitec Pivot Fertilisers Scott Bowman, as well as a number of Australian government officials and industry representatives. Representing Indonesia were Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Australia and Vanuatu Siswo Pramono, Special Advisor to the Minister of Agriculture for Agricultural Production Enhancement Hasil Sembiring, Consul General of the Republic of Indonesia in Sydney Pendekar Muda Leonard Sondakh, President Director of Pupuk Indonesia Rahmad Pribadi, and other related officials.
