Jakarta, July 2, 2026** – PT Pupuk Indonesia (Persero) and PT Pertamina (Persero) have strengthened their collaboration to support national energy and food security by exploring potential cooperation in methanol development, clean ammonia, natural gas utilization, and renewable energy. The commitment was marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) by President Director of Pupuk Indonesia, Rahmad Pribadi, and President Director of Pertamina, Simon Aloysius Mantiri, in Jakarta on Wednesday (July 1, 2026).

President Director of Pupuk Indonesia, Rahmad Pribadi, stated that both companies will optimize their respective strengths to build a more integrated industrial value chain, ranging from energy supply and natural gas utilization to the development of high value-added downstream products. According to him, collaboration among state-owned enterprises (SOEs) is key to strengthening industrial competitiveness while supporting the national development agenda.

“As the largest urea producer across Asia, the Middle East, and North Africa, Pupuk Indonesia has extensive experience in utilizing natural gas as the primary feedstock for the fertilizer and petrochemical industries. Meanwhile, Pertamina possesses significant capabilities in Indonesia’s energy sector. This collaboration opens opportunities for both companies to explore various strategic initiatives, ranging from methanol development and the optimization of natural gas utilization to the development of renewable energy,” Rahmad said.

Through the Memorandum of Understanding, Pupuk Indonesia and Pertamina will explore various strategic cooperation opportunities, including the development of methanol and other chemical products, the supply and utilization of natural gas to produce higher value-added products, as well as the development of renewable and clean energy solutions such as green hydrogen and green ammonia. The scope of cooperation also includes the development of industrial supporting technologies and other collaborative initiatives that contribute to strengthening Indonesia’s energy and industrial sectors.

“Going forward, food security and energy security can no longer be viewed as separate issues. They are closely interconnected and serve as the fundamental pillars of national sovereignty. Therefore, the synergy between Pupuk Indonesia and Pertamina represents a strategic step toward strengthening both sectors simultaneously,” he said.

According to Rahmad, this collaboration will not only generate operational efficiencies for both companies but also reinforce the foundation of Indonesia’s industrial sector. The synergy between the energy and fertilizer industries will enhance the reliability of raw material supply, accelerate downstream development of natural resources, improve the competitiveness of Indonesia’s industrial sector, and support the implementation of the Government’s *Asta Cita* agenda on energy and food security.

On the same occasion, President Director of PT Pertamina (Persero), Simon Aloysius Mantiri, stated that this synergy reflects the realization of President Prabowo Subianto’s *Asta Cita* vision, particularly in building national self-reliance through energy and food self-sufficiency. According to him, collaboration between the two state-owned enterprises has become increasingly important, given their strategic roles in ensuring the sustainability of Indonesia’s energy and food sectors.

“No nation can truly be sovereign without energy. And no nation can truly be strong without food. Therefore, the synergy between Pertamina and Pupuk Indonesia strengthens the two fundamental pillars of Indonesia’s sovereignty—energy and food,” Simon said
