Semarang, July 23, 2026 – PT Pupuk Indonesia (Persero) continues to demonstrate its commitment to advancing Indonesian sports. This commitment is reflected in the company’s renewed support for the 2026 Pupuk Indonesia Youth & Junior National Weightlifting Championships, organized by the Indonesian Weightlifting Federation (PB PABSI) in Semarang from July 22 to 24, 2026.

Senior Vice President of Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) at Pupuk Indonesia, Frans Adisuranta Ginting, stated that Pupuk Indonesia has collaborated with PB PABSI over the past five years to support the organization of the National Weightlifting Championships. This partnership forms part of the company’s long-term commitment to sustainably developing Indonesian sporting achievements.

“Pupuk Indonesia’s support is not a one-time initiative. For the past five years, the company has actively contributed to the development of national weightlifting athletes. Pupuk Indonesia is ready to support PB PABSI in producing outstanding athletes through the National Championships. The best performers from this event may go on to represent Indonesia at international competitions,” Frans said.

He added that developing high-achieving athletes is a process that requires time. It is therefore essential to identify promising athletes from a young age and provide them with opportunities to compete internationally as part of their development.

“Achieving this cannot happen overnight or be accomplished effortlessly. It must be continuously nurtured. It requires talent identification, coaching, and participation in international events. The Olympic Games will be held in Los Angeles in 2028, while the Asian Games will take place in Japan in September 2026,” he explained.

Frans further stated that Pupuk Indonesia’s support for the National Championships is part of the company’s commitment to community empowerment through the development of weightlifting.

“Through weightlifting, we hope to contribute to community empowerment. We also aim to support PB PABSI in developing a golden generation of weightlifting athletes capable of bringing pride to Indonesia on the international stage,” Frans concluded.

The 2026 Pupuk Indonesia Youth & Junior National Weightlifting Championships serve as an important platform for the regeneration of Indonesia’s national weightlifting athletes. A total of 297 participants from 23 provinces took part in the competition, comprising 105 Youth-category lifters, 115 Junior-category lifters, and 77 officials accompanying the athletes.

This year, PB PABSI contested 10 weight classes in the Youth category and 10 weight classes in the Junior category. Each class was aligned with the latest regulations issued by the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF).

Unlike previous championships, PB PABSI also introduced a Minimum Opening Attempt requirement for each competition class. The policy is intended to improve the quality of competition while ensuring that each province sends its best athletes who have met the performance standards established under IWF regulations.

Secretary General of PB PABSI, Djoko Pramono, stated that the implementation of the Minimum Opening Attempt requirement at this year’s championships was intended to raise the overall quality of the competition. It also serves as a means of evaluating athlete development programs across the regions.

“We hope these National Championships will identify promising young lifters who may eventually be selected for the national training camp. The event also allows us to monitor the progress of Youth and Junior lifter development in the regions. This ensures that regional teams do not simply send any available athlete merely to participate in the National Championships,” Djoko said.

In addition to implementing the Minimum Opening Attempt requirement, PB PABSI also presented awards to the best male and female lifters in both the Youth and Junior categories in recognition of their achievements. The awards are expected to motivate young athletes to continue improving their abilities and achieve success at both national and international levels.
